Hillary Clinton and Big Pharma Against Marijuana

Hillary Clinton is struggling to get Millennial voters on board with her campaign. There are various reasons for this naturally, but her relationship with Big Pharma and thus her unwillingness to support meaningful marijuana reform aren’t helping. In her previous campaign for president she opposed decriminalizing marijuana despite 77% of young democrats believing recreational use of pot should be legal.

The Pew Research Center also found that 63 percent of Republican Millennials favor legalizing marijuana.

Democratic hopeful Bernie Sanders has said he supports medical marijuana and the decriminalization of recreational marijuana, and has said that he supports the right of states to opt for full legalization.

Even GOP candidates Ted Cruz and Donald Trump believe that it should be a state decision making Clinton look like an old women shaking her fists in a robe yelling at kids to get off her lawn.

When asked about the utility of medical marijuana in June 2014 during a CNN town hall, she said:

“I don't think we've done enough research yet. Although I think for people who are in extreme medical conditions and have anecdotal evidence that it works, there should be availability under appropriate circumstances. But I do think we need more research, because we don't know how it interacts with other drugs. There's a lot we don't know.”

Below are just a few of the studies that show “anecdotal evidence” of marijuana treatment.

1.) Treats Migraines – Doctors in California report that they have been able to treat more than 300,000 cases of migraines with medical marijuana. 2.) Slows Tumor Growth – The American Association for Cancer Research has found that marijuana actually works to slow down tumor growth in lungs, breasts, and brain considerably. 3.) Relieves Symptoms of Chronic Disease – Research shows marijuana can help treat symptoms of chronic diseases like Irritable Bowl Disease and Chron’s, because it can treat nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. 4.) Prevents Alzheimer’s – In 20016, the Scripps Institute proved that the THC found in marijuana works to prevent Alzheimer’s by clogging up the deposits in the brain that cause the disease. 5.) Helps with ADD & ADHD – A well documented 2009 USC study showed that marijuana is not only a perfect alternative for Ritalin but it treats the disorder without any of the negative side effects of the pharmaceutical. 6.) May Treat Multiple Sclerosis – Marijuana works to stop the neurological effects and muscle spasms that come from multiple sclerosis by protecting nerves from damage cause by the fatal disease.

Though she claims to be one of the greatest "enemies" of the pharmaceutical industry, her campaign has actually accepted more money from drug companies than any other candidate in this election cycle. According to Marijuana Politics, Pharmaceutical manufacturers donated more than $340,000 for her 2008 presidential bid – and in just the first six months of her 2016 campaign, Clinton has received over $160,000 from drug companies. To top it off, Big Pharma giants Pfizer and Proctor & Gamble each have donated between $1 million and $5 million to the Clinton Foundation. And then there’s the numerous Super PACs whose finances remain hidden.

Would they really be supporting her that much if they believed she was truly their enemy?

So while Hillary attempts to appeal to younger Democrat voters her fate could ultimately be decided by her ties to Big Pharma and her stance on marijuana; one that younger voters (democratic and republican) overwhelmingly disagree with her on.
